Rather than leave the black flat, I painted a raised geometric relief across the whole canvas — interlocking diamond bands filled with more calligraphy, worked in the same black as the ground, the way the Kiswa carries its writing woven into the cloth itself. From across the room you read texture. Step closer and the hidden writing appears.
